Professor Goldin is best known for her historical work on women in the U.S. economy. Her research has covered a wide array of other topics, including immigration, New Deal policies, income inequality, technological change, education, and the reasons for the gender gap in pay. In the past several years her work has focused on college women's achievement of career and family. Her most recent project concerns the increase of women's employment in their mature and older years. She is also directing a randomized controlled trial to understand how to increase the number of female economics majors (men outnumber women 3 to 1 nationwide).
