"The story of innovation has not changed. It has always been a small team of people who have a new idea, typically not understood by people around them and their executives." —Eric Schmidt, Chairman, Google."
How does Google innovate? Can innovation be planned? Can it be taught? Those are some of the most frequent questions Google gets from CEOs and leaders of other companies. Part of the answer is that company culture and innovation can’t be separated. “You have to have the culture,” says Google's Eric Schmidt, “and you need to get it right.” So how do you create a culture of innovation? Google doesn’t have a secret formula, but the company has distilled its thinking into a set of basic principles—ideas that can be adapted and applied at pretty much any organization, regardless of size or industry.
Don't miss this chance to join Google Japan's Sergio Salvador as he guides us through the principles of innovation at Google, and how other organizations can take inspiration from, and integrate them, into their values and culture.
By day, Sergio leads New Business at Google, based in Japan. In the past, he has worked at Electronic Arts, Yahoo!, and Nokia, focusing on mobile and gaming, trying to make the world a better place, one day at a time. Sergio is also Board Director of the Avelife Foundation, a non-profit educational NGO that drives green innovation. Sergio is also the Co-Founder of Success Coaching Labs, headquartered in Tokyo.
