The ACCJ-Chubu's Women in Business and External Affairs Committees warmly welcomes Ms. Susan Roos, employment attorney and wife of U.S. Ambassador to Japan, John Roos, for what promises to be a thought-provoking address on the challenges women continue to face in the workplace in Japan and her experiences as a working mother. Ms. Roos first discussed the idea of addressing the business community on issues facing Japanese working women shortly after arriving in Japan. She is excited to also be able to address ACCJ Chubu members and guests.
Born in North Dakota, Ms. Roos attended Stanford University before earning her J.D. at the University of Southern California. Ms. Roos then practiced labor/employment law, defending employers in all aspects of employment-related matters, including wrongful termination, sexual harassment, discrimination, ADA access issues, and trade secret litigation before both federal and state courts. She was a partner at the global firm Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton before starting her own firm in 1995. Arriving in Japan in August 2009 with her husband and two children, Ms. Roos has been very active in both the American expatriate and Japanese business communities.
