The ACCJ is proud to honor the recipient of the 2011 Person of the Year Award, Hiroshi Mikitani, CEO of Rakuten, Inc., at a special award presentation luncheon in September. We would like to welcome all members of the Chamber to register to attend Mr. Mikitani's award ceremony, at which he will speak about Rakuten, and explain how his leadership and international focus have allowed his company to flourish into one of Japan's most successful internet businesses.

Most foreign business people in Japan know Mr. Mikitani as the man who brought the English language to an established Japanese company as he sought to globalize his company from the inside out. This strategy was unique in Japan, but it is not the only step Rakuten has taken to strengthen its position both in Japan and abroad. From hiring to corporate strategy to human resources management and M&A, Rakuten's story as told by Mr. Mikitani, provides illuminating examples on many fronts of an exceptionally successful business that achieved a level of globalization rarely found in Japan.
