Americans living in Japan face the dual challenge of having to comply with income tax filing requirements in both Japan and the U.S. and manage a complex set of rules and filing requirements for both jurisdictions. This naturally results in confusion and unwanted distraction as expats try to manage their obligation to be responsible taxpayers.

The ACCJ Taxation Committee is proud to present this annual event, conducted in English, which aims to provide some insights into Japanese income taxes for employees as well as clear up some of the common misconceptions surrounding global taxation, permanent residency, stock options, capital gains, etc. (This event is a sister event to our annual update on U.S. income tax issues that will be held in late March.)

This event is timely in view of the March 15 deadline for filing of Japanese individual income tax returns. In addition, the event will touch upon the additional mandatory reporting requirements for foreign assets (and stringent penalties for non compliance), income tax surtax and other changes to law that would impact residents of Japan. Some planning opportunities as well as common pitfalls will be discussed.

NOTE 1: This event is ON THE RECORD

NOTE 2: If you are driving to TAC, please inform the ACCJ in advance as arrangements must be made and a 1,000 parking fee will apply.

Note: ACCJ events are for ACCJ members and their guests only. To learn more about becoming an ACCJ member, see the Membership section of this site or contact the Membership Services Department at info@accj.or.jp / (03) 3433-7304.
