Japan is the global leader in population aging. Is it a leader in retirement preparedness? How does it compare with the U.S. and other countries? Should Japan's defined contribution scheme be enhanced so that it can play a greater role in helping Japan's aging population prepare to enjoy a financially secure retirement?
To address these issues from a global perspective and with international comparisons, we have assembled a distinguished list of speakers from the U.S., Europe and Japan. We will start with presentations from our list of speakers, followed by a panel discussion and question and answer period.
Speakers:
Dan Waters, Managing Director, ICI Global, a new trade organization established at the end of 2011 to focus on regulatory, market and other issues for global investment funds, their managers and investors. Dan joined ICI Global following a long international career in regulation, including 12 years at the United Kingdom's Financial Services Authority (FSA), where he directed asset management policy.
Anna Driggs, Associate Counsel – Pension Regulation, Investment Company Institute, the national association of U.S. investment companies, including mutual funds, closed-end funds, exchange-traded funds, and unit investment trusts. Members of ICI manage total assets of $13.9 trillion and serve more than 90 million shareholders. Anna works on 401(k), IRA and other defined contribution plan issues and engages with policymakers and other interested parties on behalf of the ICI membership to promote retirement security.
Koji Sugita, Research Fellow, Japan Securities Research Institute, an institute founded in 1961 and approved as a non-profit organization in 2010, with the aim of investigating, studying and gathering information relating to subjects concerning the capital market and economy. Mr. Sugita authored the article『米国の確定拠出年金30年の推移から日本のDCビジネスを考える』 ("What Japan Can Learn from America's 30 Year History with Defined Contribution Schemes") and is author or co-author of several books, including『投資信託の法務と実務・初版』 ("Law and Practice of Japanese Investment Trust," First Edition).
