Please join us for this timely presentation by Mr. Shuji Kobayakawa, a senior official of the Bank of Japan's Monetary Affairs Department.
Having gone through the "lost decades," Japan is often referred to in the context of learning lessons from its bitter experiences. Recently, however, there have been changes. In this presentation, Mr. Kobayakawa discusses how the Bank of Japan views recent developments of the Japanese economy and what actions it is taking to overcome deflation. In particular, he will elaborate on the BoJ's policy measures that are aimed at strengthening the economy's growth potential. Finally, he will discuss the implications of such initiatives on business in Japan.
Shuji Kobayakawa is currently Assistant Director-General of the BoJ's Monetary Affairs Department which plans and formulates monetary policy at the Bank of Japan.
After working for the OECD as an economist covering structural policy analysis and country analysis of New Zealand and Canada, he became a chief editor of the BoJ's "Financial System Report." He then headed the Bank's Statistics Division before assuming his current position. Shuji has received both an M.Phil and D.Phil in Economics from the University of Oxford.
