The ACCJ is honored to host one of the leading fiscal and monetary policy experts of the Liberal Democratic Party, member of the House of Representatives Kozo Yamamoto. A former Ministry of Finance official and a leading critic of Bank of Japan monetary policy over the past twenty years, he has had a leading role in developing what is now known as "Abenomics." Now the whole world is watching how Japan's monetary and fiscal policy will develop after the appointment of a new Bank of Japan governor who is committed to more meaningful easing in an attempt to pursue new inflation targets of 2%. ACCJ members will have a special chance to hear first hand from one of its primary people behind "Abenomics."
The Honorable Mr. Yamamoto will comment on a wide variety of policy areas, including plans for future consumption tax hikes, how to manage Japan's massive national debt, how to promote domestic demand and foreign direct investment, and how to boost the international competitiveness of Japanese industry. The Honorable Mr. Yamamoto has been a member of the longest-running exchange program between members of the U.S. Congress and the Japanese parliament for over 15 years and is a strong advocate of closer U.S.-Japan relations. He has studied at the Tokyo, Harvard and Cornell Universities and has a compelling international perspective.
