Paul M. Fitzgerald assumed the post of Consul General at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo, Japan with the rank of Minister-Counselor in January 2011. Mr. Fitzerald manages all Consular and visa functions, including notorial, passport services, emergency services, applying for immigrant visas to go to the United States and inter-company transfers, which is relevant to all Japanese firms that send staff to the United States. Additionally, he is involved in lobbying Japan's ratification of the Hague Convention on jurisdiction, recognition, enforcement and in respect of parental responsibility and the protection of children. Almost all of you have some Consular questions and Paul Fitzerald is the most competent person in Japan to answer them.
Mr. Fitzgerald is a Senior Foreign Service officer with the U.S. Department of State. A 28-year veteran of the State Department, he most recently served from September 2009 to September 2010 as the team leader of the U.S. Provincial Reconstruction Team in Anbar Province, Iraq, focused on political reconciliation, economic development, the rule of law, governance and infrastructure reconstruction.
Mr. Fitzgerald has a BA in Political Science from Boston College, Massachusetts, and a MA in National Security Strategy from the National War College.
