The Women in Business Committee welcomes Susan Blount, senior Vice President and General Counsel for Prudential Financial Inc. Ms. Blount has been honored as Women's e-news "21 Leaders for the 21st Century" for her ability to leverage power in advocating for diversity in the legal field.
In response to a study reporting on the dismal numbers of minority- and women-owned law firms, Ms. Blount partnered to create the Inclusion Initiative. In 2010, its first year of operation, the Initiative exceeded its goal of spending 30 million dollars on women- and minority-owned law firms by 10 million dollars. She has recruited some of the most prestigious companies worldwide to support this worthy endeavor.
Ms. Blount will share her personal journey as a lifelong advocate for diversity, from her time as a young woman struggling starting in a field dominated by men, to her eventual success and efforts to pave the way for women behind her. Her story is certain to be an inspiration for junior women who are just starting out and beginning to discover and push against societal limitations and unwritten restrictions. Also, her commitment to bettering her profession will serve as a reminder to all women that, while the work is never done, there are individuals making great strides.
