The Japanese economy is now standing at a major crossroad. Economic policies by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, known as Abenomics, have begun to change Japan's economy. The first prong, aggressive monetary policy, and the second, flexible fiscal policy, got off to a flying start. However, the third prong, growth strategy, is the most important and the most difficult for Japan's economy. If it succeeds, Japan's economy can recover from 20 years of stagnation. The Abe cabinet will make its growth strategy by June.
Hiroko Ota, former Minister of State for Economic and Fiscal Policy during Abe's first term and currently professor of economics at the Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, will evaluate the growth strategy and point out what remains to be done.
