Social entrepreneurship describes an entrepreneurial venture that aims to achieve a particular social goal through positive externalities, in addition to profit.
This program will offer practical advice outlining the basics of how to start a social entrepreneur-based business from Adnan Mahmud, CEO of Geocko, and Nadia Mahmud, CEO and Co-founders of Jolkona Foundation.
Jolkona connects people with global philanthropic opportunities and shows the impact of their donations. Jolkona Foundation makes it easy to give directly to low-cost, high-impact philanthropic opportunities around the world. Jolkona works with partner organizations to create affordable donation options with a measurable impact. Unlike most nonprofits, the giving experience starts after the check is written. Jolkona works with partners to provide proof of impact (such as a picture, a video or a story) for every donation through their personalized website.
Adnan Mahmud, and Nadia Mahmud will provide Chubu's Independent Business Committee members an overview of what social entrepreneurship is, provide concrete examples of how they launched "Jolkona" and how entrepreneurship can revitalize societies, even internationally. The audience will receive practical advice on how to take a "small to big" approach in growing as an entrepreneur. Including:
- What is the most important part of starting a new business, especially at the initial stage?
- What are some particular steps entrepreneurs should follow to start and expand their business with small capital?
- What lessons can Japan learn from such experiences in revitalizing societies from disasters such as the March 11 earthquake and tsunami?
- How can people get started, even if they don't have large investors backing them?
