Event Review: Envisioning the Future from the Crisis
Date: June 27, 2012
Speaker: Sumio Mabuchi
The ACCJ was truly honored to host Mr. Sumio Mabuchi, as he shared his insights on the current economic situation and other related issues at a recent event at the Tokyo American Club. A former Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) and special advisor to Prime Minister Kan, Mr. Mabuchi spoke about Japan's current economic challenges and possible solutions. Specifically, Mr. Mabuchi delved into the need for Japan to devise a new “economic engine.” He proposed several ways to boost the economy: further developing infrastructure and reconstruction, using a stimulative monetary policy and working with the Bank of Japan to help stimy deflationary trends.
Attendees were impressed with Mr. Mabuchi's frankness and ability to speak authoritatively on a wide range of topics of critical import in the current political and economic climate.
