Both those who are already familiar with and those interested in learning about Japan's Special Economic Zones (SEZ) should come listen to Dr. Yoshiaki Okamoto of Ernst & Young explain the New Incentives for Foreign Investors in Japan. Dr. Okamoto will particularly focus on the healthcare industry, as the Japanese government has recently launched several key initiatives to increase the attractiveness of this sector for FDI.
The SEZ law, which became effective in August 2011, offers incentives to foreign investors to set up new businesses or further develop existing businesses in Japan. These incentives include eased regulations and preferential tax treatment in eight designated locations throughout Japan. You will learn about the framework for the incentives, eligibility details, and the many additional local incentives that prefectures and cities are offering.
Yoshiaki Okamoto, PhD, is an Executive Director with Ernst & Young ShinNihon. Dr. Okamoto has served in corporate consulting capacities and in government advisory positions, worked at think tanks and taught at several universities in Japan. Dr. Okamoto has also provided a wide range of advisory services, including in respect of industrial policy, to the Japanese government and has an extensive network within the Government of Japan.
