The Bank of Japan has started briefing sessions for foreign businesspeople on its economic outlook and monetary policy. In addition to the ACCJ, these briefings have been well received by the Canadian and British chambers of commerce in Tokyo.

Mr. Shuji Kobayakawa, a senior official at the BOJ's Monetary Affairs Department will make a special trip to inform Chubu members and guests on important economic issues that will affect us both locally and nationally. His presentation will cover two main areas

1. The Tankan, an informative short-term economic survey of enterprises in Japan

2. The Growth-Supporting Funding Facility, this facility aims to encourage financial institutions to lend to businesses with growth potential.?In addition to this facility, the BOJ introduced the Stimulating Bank Lending Facility in December. Mr. Kobayakawa will provide more information concerning what these facilities are, how the former facility has been used, and in what sector of the economy it has provided funds.


About Shuji Kobayakawa

Shuji Kobayakawa is currently Assistant Director-General of Monetary Affairs Department which plans and formulates monetary policy at the Bank of Japan. After having worked for the OECD as an economist coverning structural policy analysis and country analysis of New Zealand and Canada, he became a chief editor of the Bank's "Financial System Report." He then headed the Bank's statistics division before assuming the current position.?Shuji has M.Phil and D.Phil in Economics, both from the University of Oxford.
