Regarding the ACCJ Journal Japanese Supplement - Publication No. 12 (Fall 2012)

The Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) contacted the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ) in regard to the ACCJ Journal's Japanese supplement (Fall 2012), which featured a sponsored roundtable discussion entitled: "Japan's Anti-Monopoly Law and the Fair Trade Commission." The JFTC requested to clarify its position in response to the ACCJ Journal article, but the ACCJ's response to that request was inadequate and untimely. As a result, the ACCJ Journal was unable to run the rebuttal as requested.

Although the original article stated, "the views and opinions expressed in the roundtable discussion are solely the opinions and views of their authors and do not necessarily reflect the views and opinions of the ACCJ," we deeply regret the confusion that this situation has caused.

We believe that robust and frank dialogue, even when opinions differ, is critical to the creation of a sound business environment. In fact, the ACCJ believes that this dialogue is so important that "Transparent and Fair Process" is one of the ACCJ's Core Advocacy Principles. Accordingly, the ACCJ posted the rebuttal as a website news item on November 30.
