The ACCJ Tohoku Disaster Relief Fund decided that this is a worthwhile

event to support and has committed a matching grant of two million yen

to help TNB organize this symposium. The symposium will include an

overview of Tohoku's tourism business, damage caused by the earthquake,

the status of reconstruction and plans for the future. It will feature

guest speakers, panel discussions on critical challenges, brainstorming

and a presentation about tourism opportunities in the region.

The Symposium is supported by the ACCJ's Travel Industry Committee and

the Tohoku Revitalization Task Force. It will take place on Saturday,

November 26th. Key speakers will include the Governor of Miyagi

Prefecture, Mayors of major cities in Tohoku, the President of JR

Tohoku, ACCJ leaders and others.

The Tohoku New Business Conference (TNB) is a local, self help business

association that will hold a symposium on how to rebuild and revive

Tohoku's hospitality and tourism industry. This industry is a major

employer and user of goods and services across Tohoku, and its

revitalization is critical as the region moves into the recovery phase.

Tourism is labor intensive and encompasses a wide range of

establishments from large city hotels, resorts, ryokans, minshuku, inns,

bars and restaurants, all of which are very important to the vitality of

the Tohoku economy.

The TNB welcomes ACCJ members interested in Tohoku to attend the

symposium. Much goodwill has already been generated in Tohoku by the

United States Government and Military with "Operation Tomodachi" and

other initiatives. Further goodwill will be developed by ACCJ members

attending the event, spending money there and giving hope and support.

Note: ACCJ events are for ACCJ members and their guests only. To learn more about becoming an ACCJ member, see the Membership section of this site or contact the Membership Services Department at info@accj.or.jp / (03) 3433-7304.
