Do you have limited-term employees or temp staff working in your company?
Three important employment laws have recently been revised and these revisions are considered to have a big impact on all employers doing business in Japan.
The first law concerns temp staff and the companies that have improperly employed temp staff. These companies may encounter the situation in which they are required by law to employ these temp staff directly.
The second law is about limited term employment and the companies who have limited term employees. These companies may find themselves in the situation where they are required by law to employ limited term employees on an unlimited term basis in the event such employees are employed more than 5 years.
The third law is about aged employees and the requirement that companies should continue the employment of these employees until they reach the age of 65 or until the employee would like to retire whichever comes first.
Aki Tanaka is an attorney at Kitahama Partners specializing in employment law and has a rich experience in handling employment cases for ACCJ members as well as Japanese domestic employers. Her presentation will cover the revisions of these three important employment laws as well as provide possible solutions to avoid the risks associated with such revisions.
