Are you interested in building a house in Japan? Have you ever considered it but then shied away? Find out how you can build your own house at this ACCJ Architecture, Construction and Real Estate Committee (ACRE) event. Our 3 panelists have bought land and built their own houses.

John Kirch: John'’s family home (173 meters squared) in Shimouma near Komazawa Park is a modern Japanese home with traditional elements fused together from a Western perspective.

Dr. Oskar Bartenstein: This 24 meters squared vacation home in Abukuma Highlands in Fukushima Prefecture is 100% energy self-sufficient.

Jerry DeCourtney Odle: Jerry'’s family home (189.63 meters squared) in Denenchofu features a unique designed by a Japanese architect, and was built by a Canadian builder with 95% of materials imported from Canada. Hot water and underfloor heating are provided by solar tubes on the roof.

These three homeowners will speak about their experiences with finding land, design, financing, construction worries and other aspects. Their presentations will be followed by a moderated discussion combined with audience participation. In addition to the three homeowners, other professionals in the business of supporting home building will be present at the event to answer questions. A list of professionals in the room from various fields will be made available on the day of the event; advice can be obtained and contacts can be made during the networking session after the panel discussion.

Networking with light food and drinks: 8:00 pm - 9:00 p.m.
