This presentation will explore how converged digital and mobile health care solutions will play an essential role in empowering patients and the entire health care ecosystem, while increasing access to care and controlling costs. Peter Tippett is vice president and chief medical officer for Verizon Connected Health, the company's practice group that is helping enable the rapidly evolving health care ecosystem through the pragmatic adoption of health information technology. In this capacity, he is responsible for creating Verizon's health care strategy and developing a portfolio of solutions to help transform the delivery of patient care, better manage costs, enhance access to medical services and provide health data privacy. Peter will also include case studies and relevant trends facing the healthcare industry globally.

Peter joined Verizon in 2007 following its acquisition of managed security services leader Cybertrust. Before Cybertrust, Tippett was the chief executive officer of NCSA, then ICSA Labs, and was chairman of TruSecure, the largest private U.S. security services company. In the early 1990s, he directed the enterprise and security products group at Symantec. Prior to that, he worked in software development and is widely credited with creating the first commercial anti-virus product that later became Norton AntiVirus. Tippett served on the President's Information Technology Advisory Committee from 2003-2005, helping guide U.S. efforts in health care IT, information security and computational sciences research. Tippett, a physician who is board certified in internal medicine, holds a doctorate in biochemistry and an M.D., both from Case Western Reserve University, and a bachelor's degree in biology from Kalamazoo College.
