Starting out in 2004, Erik Oskamp bought Tokyo residential real estate as a hobby. Over time, he realized that by applying his background in quantitative analysis for financial institutions, he could create a business out of mining for hidden gems.

The company he created in 2007, Akasaka Real Estate, uses his proprietary computer model to identify old but well-located studio apartments with high rental yields for his base of primarily foreign customers. In addition to brokering the deals, his company manages hundreds of units.

Erik will talk about why it makes sense for foreigners to invest in Tokyo residential property, how to do it and what his company does to help.

Prior to serving as President of Akasaka Real Estate, Erik worked for more than 15 years for Credit Suisse, Citibank, UBS and Barclays in New York, London, Tokyo as well as his native Amsterdam.
