There are many organic solvents which can be used in other countries for

the purpose of processing food, extracting active ingredients and so

forth. However, some are not allowed in Japan and are posing a trade

barrier in the food industry, including dietary supplements. This

consortium will address the global harmonization of organic solvents

usages and aim to expand those usages in Japan. Specifically, we will

deal with three solvents: acetone, ethyle acetate and isopropanol, where

usages are limited in Japan, but no such limitations exist in the U.S.

and EU.



Feedback from a recent meeting with the Ministry of Health, Labor and

Welfare and next steps will be discussed. This meeting will be held in

Japanese but an interpreter will be provided for English speakers. If
