The Year of the Dragon is already well under way. Last year, we were able to hold a number of quality events and most significantly were able to roll out the 2011 Healthcare White Paper & National Health Survey. Follow up and continued advocacy on these issues will be at the top of the agenda this year. To get things moving, it would be good to first gather everyone痴 ideas and suggestions, clarify goals and ensure overall alignment. I would like to request that all Healthcare Committee & Subcommittee Leadership as well as interested members attend the 2012 Kick Off Working Meeting on January 19th. Though we have a full Agenda and will need to move things right along, there should be plenty of time to share your ideas and for group discussion. AGENDA Opening - Overview of 2011 Plans for 2012 - Diet Engagement: 'Mini-Diet Door Knocks': We plan to arrange a series of Diet engagements in 2012 featuring recommendations highlighted in the 2011 ACCJ Healthcare White Paper. To prime the pump so to speak, soon after release, the White Paper was sent to all 722 Diet members and hand delivered to Health Minister Yoko Komiyama . As you know, Japan is working on the final draft of a new Healthy Japan 21 (健康日本２１) Initiative to be launched in 2013. The goal is to provide meaningful input into this process and into the overall healthcare reform agenda in Japan. The benefits and value - to patients and the healthcare system - of shifting to a prevention paradigm will be a primary theme. - 2012 APCAC Business Summit, March 1-2, 2012: With the ACCJ Hosting this year, the Healthcare Committee has been requested to provide a one hour plenary presentation (panel discussion). Considering the nearness of the date, a confirmed Theme and Speakers will need to be determined by the end of January, if possible. - 2012 ACCJ Healthcare Symposium: As you know, we have been working on the Prevention / Early Detection Theme for over six years, issuing the first ACCJ Prevention Viewpoint in 2007. In 2008, we held the first Prevention Symposium at the US Embassy Auditorium, please see attached program for your reference. The Prevention Theme has slowly gathered momentum over the years with a number of Viewpoints issued and has achieve a number of concrete results, from changes in vaccine policy to enhanced infection control guidelines to the funding of anti-cancer initiatives to name a few. With the release of the first ACCJ Prevention White Paper in 2010 and the greatly expanded ACCJ Prevention White Paper with supporting National Health Survey in 2011, the time is right once again hold a quality ACCJ Healthcare Symposium in 2012. Speaker Programs / Events: Good speakers and topics are always welcome - come with your ideas and suggestions. Some ideas are already in hand; however, additional speaker options for possible February, March. April, May and June events would be very welcome. Subcommittee Reports: Quick Update from Subcommittee Chairs on upcoming plans for 2012 Other Business / Open Discussion: Please bring your ideas and be ready to discuss. This will be a free flowing discussion, so any new topics are welcome. The basic goal of the Kick Off Working Meeting will be to draw up a preliminary 2012 Event Calendar and To Do List - with particular focus on the first half of 2012.
