After nearly 30 years and two operators, Wendy's shut its doors to disappointed Japanese fans in 2009. Was the chain that Dave Thomas started in 1969 destined to be another brand that couldn't make it? Luckily for "Frosty" and "Hot 'n Juicy Burger" fans, the answer seems to be "no." Wendy's returned in 2011, this time with a new partner, a new strategy, and a modern flagship store in Omotesando. Having introduced delivery pizza to Japan with Domino's, Ernest Higa turned his efforts to bringing back the venerable chain. Not only does the new Wendy's have the chain's signature items, its Japan Premium menu moves into the gourmet burger realm while adjusting to the local palate.
