The ACCJ welcomes the introduction of a feed-in-tariff system for renewable energy (the "FIT"), which is expected to be implemented from July of this year. The FIT presents Japan with an opportunity to benefit from the experiences of other countries with similar regimes, improve Japan's energy security by reducing reliance on imported oil and gas, and help ease current shortages of electric generation capacity. The FIT also presents the U.S. and other foreign business communities with an opportunity to invest in clean technology projects in wind, solar, and other forms of renewable energy.

The EEC has invited Keisuke Murakami, Director of the New and Renewable Energy Division at METI and other experienced leaders in the private sector to share specific ideas on the key opportunities and challenges that have resulted from the new FIT. After Director Murakami provides a basic overview of the FIT, panelists will be asked to weigh in on existing policies and provide recommendations on what needs to be done in order to make renewable energy investments viable in Japan now and beyond.

Speakers will include:

Keisuke Murakami, Director, New and Renewable Energy Division, METI
Luke Eginton, Managing Director, Vestas Wind Technology Japan
Miguel A. Fernandez, General Manager Japan, SunEdison
Yoichi Katayama, Partner, Energy & Infrastructure, Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, LLP
Minako Wakabayashi, Of Counsel, Energy & Infrastructure, Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, LLP
Moderated by David Litt, CEO, Deneb Renewable and EEC Vice-Chair
