Kurt Tong, Deputy Chief of Mission, U.S. Embassy Tokyo, Visits with ACCJ-Kansai Members in Kobe

ACCJ-Kansai Vice President Kiran Sethi and ACCJ Kansai Special Advisors meet with the newly arrived Deputy Chief of Mission, U.S. Embassy Tokyo Mr. Kurt Tong and U.S. Consul General Osaka-Kobe, Mr. Patrick Linehan, at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Kobe. The objective of the meeting was to share views on the current economic developments in the Kansai region, and to update Mr. Tong on the vision and goals of the ACCJ-Kansai as well as with the various activities being undertaken at the Kansai chapter.

Discussion on the need to develop Japanese global leaders to create a sustainably competitive Japanese corporate environment was highlighted. The U.S. government will be providing the ACCJ with information about scholarships available to Japanese nationals for study in the U.S., including the Fullbright Program as well as a more expanded list of scholarships. It was suggested that the ACCJ consider creating an intern program for students in member companies that would lead to the objective of creating stronger Japanese talent.
