Featured Committee: External Affairs Committee (EAC) Kansai

At the External Affairs Committee (EAC) Kansai, our goal is “One Kansai.” We strive to achieve this goal through diversity and internationalization.

We are focusing on tourism, entrepreneurship (in large companies, SMEs and start-ups) and internationalization. We feature discussion forums and events to generate and exchange ideas; aditionally, we communicate with local governments and business organizations.

Please see the attached YouTube video of our “Tourism Symposium: Bringing in Tourists from Asia” held earlier this year.

We are planning an event on September 4th titled “Designing Your Career After Surviving Cancer - Can Patients be Considered Innovators of Japanese Society?".

One in three Japanese people experience cancer in his/her lifetime. However, patients diagnosed with cancer are facing difficult experiences in regard to employment, such as resignation, transfer to other work and decrease in total income. On the other hand, cancer patients need to take care of the increased medical costs for their cancer treatment. This is a serious problem for those who live with cancer. Ms. Naomi Sakurai, who is a breast cancer survivor herself, will raise this issue as a discussion topic for the seminar and discuss what we should think about and how we should cope with this issue. She will share the results of the survey she recently conducted of working generation Japanese cancer patients.

Also, on September 13, Mr. Hitoshi Asada, Chairperson of the Osaka Prefectural Assembly and a chief policy architect of Osaka Ishin-no-Kai, will speak in the event called "One Osaka Project to Vitalize Kansai" on the project that Osaka Ishin-no-Kai has proposed to change this region and ultimately strengthen Japan.

Mr. Asada graduated from Kyoto University. He received his master’s degree from Stanford University. He worked for NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) as a researcher and worked at the OECD in Paris as a diplomat. This is a rare opportunity to hear him speak.
