As Japan gradually returns to normality, attention now turns to

restarting Japan's economic engine. Now, more than ever, entrepreneurial

opportunity needs to be linked to individuals that are entrepreneurially

minded.



An academic advisor to the ACCJ on its Growth Strategy Task Force, Bob

Eberhart will reveal recent evidence that the right sort of government

efforts can successfully encourage talented individuals to start high

performing companies, by reducing barriers. He will also share thoughts

on the most effective path forward for promoting new company starts and

growth - perspectives that were fleshed out further at a recent

symposium between METI, the U.S. Department of State, and Japanese and

U.S. venture capital firms.



Bob is a doctoral candidate in Stanford's Department of Management

Science and Engineering. His papers cover topics such as corporate

governance, entrepreneurship in Japan, and institutional ideas of

innovation. He is a frequent lecturer at Stanford and Berkeley on these

subjects and has received awards from the National Aerospace

Manufacturers Accreditation Program, the Society of Automotive

Engineers, and the Ann Arbor Chamber of Commerce. Not only that, but he

himself was an entrepreneur prior to his current academic career, as the

CEO of a Japanese startup from 1999 until its acquisition in 2007.
