Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has burst on the scene by declaring that both he and Japan "are back!" But is he moving back to the old LDP policies or is he leading Japan in a new direction? In order to succeed, he needs the right ideas, the right force of character and the right skills to discipline his own party as he tackles the challenges of negotiating Japan's entry into TPP, taming deflation along with the BoJ, reforming Japan's governance through a national security council and deregulating the economy.

You are invited to hear the views of Professor Gerald Curtis, Burgess Professor of Political Science at Columbia University, on these and other important issues.
