Featured Committee: A Committee for all Members – The Foreign Direct Investment Committee
The Foreign Direct Investment Committee's themes are important to virtually all ACCJ members (essentially, FDI is "our business" for most members).
The Committee looks at many different aspects of foreign direct investment into Japan, and has been a major contributor to policy discussions on how best to encourage greater in-flows of FDI into Japan.
Some examples of the wide-ranging events the Committee has recently hosted include a roundtable carried out late last year on how the Tohoku disasters had affected inbound M&A activity, an extremely timely panel discussion on corporate governance and its effect on investment decisions entitled, “After Olympus… What Do Foreign Investors Want Most from Japanese Companies,” and the ever-popular presentation in April of economic trends and forecasts from one of Japan’s most engaging speakers, Jesper Koll.
The Committee also is at the forefront of advocacy activities to improve the climate for foreign investment into Japan, most recently updating a Viewpoint it has used in recent months to urge the Japanese government to improve corporate governance standards for Japanese companies and submitting comment letters to the Ministry of Justice and the Tokyo Stock Exchange in respect of proposed law and rule changes relating to requirements for independent directors.
The Committee continues to fulfill its commitment to bringing entertaining and informative speakers to address the Chamber, and two upcoming events are no exceptions:

featuring three panelists from leading private equity and venture capital funds.
