At the ACCJ Chubu Clean Energy Breakfast on June 8th, Clint Wilder, veteran business and technology journalist and senior editor at Clean Edge, spoke on how clean technology is revitalizing the U.S. economy, creating jobs, improving energy security, and ultimately contributing to the climate.

Clean Edge, founded in 2000, a leading research, advisory, and consulting firm covering the clean technology industry. Based in San Francisco and Portland, Oregon, it is considered one of the world's leading sources of expertise on the global clean-tech business, and its clients include JETRO.

Although most of the examples of clean-energy activities that Wilder presented were located in the U.S., he noted that people around the world are looking to Japan to see how they do more clean technology. He pointed out that the number two item on Clean Edge's Clean Energy Trends report for 2012 was "Japan moving to a cleaner, post-Fukushima future." "Of all the trends in the world, what is going on in Japan is very significant," Wilder noted.

He commented on his own experiences with "Cool Biz" in Japan, noting that the prefectural government buildings he visited had unneeded lights turned off and air-conditioner thermostats set high. Wilder is the co-author of The Clean Tech Revolution: The Next Big Growth and Investment Opportunity (HarperCollins, 2007), a widely praised book translated into seven languages, including a Japanese version published by First Press in Tokyo in 2008.

The entrepreneurial-minded ACCJ Chubu members, who enjoyed the sumptuous Hilton breakfast with Wilder, found his presentation both informative and stimulating.
