With a high speed online connection installed in ordinary Japanese

households, anybody can receive and transmit high-quality video files

without difficulty. This circumstance has opened up opportunities to

develop new business models, but it also has given rise to threats to

the movie business. The movie industry has indeed been suffering from

acts of copyright infringement committed by online users, and methods of

online infringement have been changing and diversified as Internet

technology matures.

The industry is facing challenges to protect their content from

infringements conducted via such online services and applications as UGC

sites and P2P file-sharing software. Tatsuya Otsuka is the Director of

Cyber-Net Analysis at Japan and International Motion Picture Copyright

Association, Inc (JIMCA), a branch of the Motion Picture Association

(MPA). Tatsuya will speak on recent trends of online infringement of

movies and explain content protection measures the MPA is promoting.

Also to be discussed it how that affects other industries where

copyright infringement is a concern.

Please join us for an active discussion on these issues.
