Please join us to hear the story of how Japanese bankers who work in a Japan-based subsidiary of a U.S. financial institution have grown to be international bankers working in China, UK, and India.
Marc Merlino, Corporate Banking Division Head for Citibank Japan Ltd., will speak about Citi's Japan Desk Network, a network of Japanese bankers strategically located in cities where Japanese firms have international offices. These bankers are sent overseas from Japan with their families to service its most important Japanese clients. Over time, these bankers have been relied upon by clients and have built up a
strong relationship with clients and local colleagues.
Two bankers who have gone out to these Japan desks will speak about their experiences. Tamotsu Yaita, currently on assignment in Delhi, will speak about his experience in India and how he and his family settled into a location where he is the sole Japanese in the Citi organization.
Kenichi Igarashi is the representative in London. He built up the Japan
desk in China, first by himself, then expanded the network to three
bankers in three cities. He has grown the business significantly by
supporting many Japanese firms' expansions into China. In December last
year, he moved to London, a new challenge where he is responsible for
supporting clients in Western Europe covering 17 countries.
Citi believes that by providing these bankers with rich international
experiences, they will become better future leaders for Japan.
