global level was launched by the Koizumi Cabinet Office in 2001 and placed under the stewardship of a group of world-renowned scientists, including Nobel Laureates. The program for campus development calls for the creation of world-class facilities, incorporating the most advanced
architecture and technology on a breathtaking location in central Okinawa. Phase One construction was completed in March 2010, and the campus is now in full operation, with planning and construction of future phases proceeding.
Our speaker is no stranger to the ACRE community, having been an ACCJ member and prominent leader in the internationalization of the Japanese construction industry since the early 1980s. John Dickison's involvement with OIST began over 7 years ago where he led the consultant team conducting site evaluation and feasibility planning, coordinating the project through the full design and site preparation phases.
Recently John relocated to Okinawa to serve as the Director of Facilities & Construction to directly oversee the completion of construction. John will explain the concept behind the university, the
impressive campus development, and share his unique insights on the challenges of coordinating between an elite international group of scientists and the ups and downs of Japanese government procurement.
