Professor Yoichiro Matsumoto is Executive Vice President of the University of Tokyo and the Secretary General of the Office of Medical Innovation, Cabinet Secretariat. Prof. Matsumoto was appointed to head the Office of Medical Innovation on January 4, 2012. He specializes in mechanical engineering and has made significant accomplishments in the research and development of medical equipment through medical-engineering partnerships, and has been involved in the promotion of medical innovation policy for many years.

According to Prof. Matsumoto, life innovation is for achieving economic growth and extending people's healthy life expectancy amid our aging
society and declining birthrate. To establish a society in which the elderly can live with vitality and a medical system that sustains itself
economically, we need life innovation to lead economic growth. The government has set a goal of, through life innovation measures, creating
a new market worth around 50 trillion yen and new jobs for 2.84 million people by 2020. To achieve life innovation, the government is also
focusing on research and development and commercialization of innovative medicine, advanced medical technology such as regenerative medicine, and medical/nursing care robots that capitalize on Japan's manufacturing technology.

As Japan's leading proponent of the importance of medical innovation, Prof. Matsumoto will provide his unique insights and the details of
Japan's current and future Medical Innovation Strategy. If you are in the healthcare industry and doing business in Japan, this is an event
you cannot afford to miss.
