Businesses and consumers benefit from sound competition. Competition encourages innovation and efficiency, enhances consumer choice and helps reduce prices and improve quality; but sound competition is also susceptible to government policy, legislation, and anti-competitive conduct of firms. In this context, competition authorities have come to play a critical role in preventing and correcting the types of behavior that can adversely affect the smooth functioning of the marketplace.

Join the ACCJ for a luncheon event with Chairman of the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC), Mr. Kazuhiko Takeshima, as he talks about competition in Japan and reflects on his decade of leadership at the JFTC.

In his remarks, Chairman Takeshima will shed light on why he believes "there is no economic growth without sound competition." Chairman Takeshima will also talk about how the JFTC's ongoing efforts to: enforce the Antimonopoly Act; curb the unfair trade practices that disadvantage SMEs; and strengthen Japan's international ties with competition regulators around the world, will ultimately boost Japan's economy and strengthen the business environment.

This event will be one of Chairman Takeshima's last public appearances as head of the JFTC, so don't miss this unique opportunity.
