ACCJ Announces Release of 2012 CSR Year Book
The tragic earthquake, tsunami and nuclear fallout from last March brought devastation across much of eastern Japan, with the damage estimated by the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Office at ¥16.9 trillion. Some 300,000 people were displaced along the eastern coast of Japan’s main island of Honshu.
Ever since then, member companies of the ACCJ have been extremely active in contributing to the Tohoku recovery. Today the ACCJ announced the public release of the “2012 ACCJ CSR Year Book," a summary report the Chamber assembled on the corporate social responsibility (CSR) endeavors member companies have undertaken in support of that recovery. For the report ACCJ member companies answered survey questions about their CSR activities, which ranged from donating cash, goods or services to hands-on volunteering. A total of 75 companies took part in the survey.
Some highlights of the report include:
- Donations from the 33 companies that disclosed donations of their Japanese operations collectively came to more than ¥16 billion
- Donations from the 34 companies that disclosed the donations of their U.S. or other affiliates surpassed ¥2 billion (at ¥78/$1)
- Donations from 28 companies that disclosed donations by their Japanese employees totaled over ¥400 million
- The entire list of the 75 responding companies in alphabetical order and a summary of their donations and volunteering efforts
- 88% of the 75 companies had employees who volunteered in the relief efforts
- In addition to separate member company donations, the ACCJ itself raised over ¥50 million
