Review: 21st Chubu Walk-a-thon
This was our 21st year for the Walk-a-thon, and we have reached a milestone in donations in surpassing 100 million yen! To celebrate that fact, we were honored to have many of our ACCJ executives from Tokyo, such as our president Michael Alfant, as well as American Embassy representatives including Mr. Kurt Tong, Deputy Chief of Mission there to help us celebrate.
For those who were not able to attend, you missed many of the above attendees dressed in traditional samurai costumes, including the Honorable Mayor of Nagoya, Mr. Takashi Kawamura. The opening ceremony was followed by the annual walk, which again took place around the Morikoro Park Global Center, which served as the event venue for the second year in a row. As the samurai army led the way, an estimated 3,000 participants marched behind them around the predetermined route within the grounds. Once completed, the crowds returned to the main event plaza to enjoy traditional foods from various local vendors, live entertainment on one of two stages and of course games and fun for children and adults alike.
As with last year’s event, we are still trying to support the relief efforts in the Tohoku region and have pledged 10% of all funds raised to be sent to that area for use. We all understand that the region is still in great need and the Chubu Walk-a-thon is trying to help in any way we can.
The Walk-a-thon Committee really does want to thank everyone who came out to support us and all those unsung heroes that make this event possible every year. There are too many people to try and list, but please believe us that each and every one of you are truly appreciated. Please join us again next year for our 22nd Walk-a-thon event and to help us start the journey toward the next 100-million yen milestone!
