Established in 1948 by representatives of 40 American firms, the ACCJ, a fully independent chamber of commerce, has grown into one of the most influential business organizations in Japan, with more than 2,700 members representing more than forty countries and 1,000 companies.

The ACCJ is a Member AmCham of the Asia-Pacific Council of American Chambers of Commerce (APCAC), consisting of 27 Member AmChams in 21 economies. APCAC held its annual meeting in April 2010 to exchange ideas on the regional business environment and offer recommendations to business and government leaders.
