Overview: Tokyo University's Division of Corporate Relations has emerged as the clear leader in taking advantage of new opportunities created by the "quasi-privatization" of Japanese national universities. Prof. Shigeo Kagami heads up the key department: SEED, which stands for Science Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development. Among other things, SEED handles special courses for would-be entrepreneurs, an incubation center, and coordination with The University of Tokyo Edge Capital (a VC firm) and the Tokyo University Licensing Office.
