  Diet Doorknock

2009 Winter Diet Doorknock

The Diet Doorknock is the Chamber's largest consolidated advocacy initiative. The 2009 Winter Diet Doorknock was no exception as it doubled initial ACCJ expectations.

Over the course of three days, 72 ACCJ leaders met with 58 Diet members to discuss the international business environment in Japan. During the meetings, the ACCJ reaffirmed its commitment to Japan's continued growth and prosperity and reiterated that, as good corporate citizens, Chamber members have a long histories of meaningful contribution to Japanese society.

The overall tone of Doorknock was one of cooperation as ACCJ and Diet members agreed that Japan and the United States currently face an array of difficult economic challenges, and measures must be taken to overcome the global economic crisis, even while grapping with such issues as rapid globalization, aging populations, climate change and mounting public debt.

As the current economic crisis continues to develop in both countries and around the world, the ACCJ emphasized that whatever happens it is imperative for both the U.S. and Japan to renew their commitment to certain tenets essential to good governance and sustained economic growth as the key to restoring our economies to good health.

These tenets, which include transparency and a level playing field, are embodied in the ACCJ's "Core Advocacy Principles."
