THE BEAUTY OF JAPAN'S GALAPAGOS EFFECT - AND HOW TO GO BEYOND

12 Jul 10, 12:00pm to 2:00pm
Hosting Committee(s): Marketing Programs
Even Japanese government officials now worry about the Galapagos effect, as inventions such as i-Mode, electronic money and Shinkansen remain largely confined to these islands. But Dr. Gerhard Fasol will show how some Galapagos characteristics can create opportunities if you work WITH them rather than against them. The only non-Japanese member of the "post-Galapagos Study Group," Dr. Fasol advises companies on entering and growing in the Japanese market.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Dr. Gerhard Fasol is a globally recognized expert on Japan's high-tech sector. He initially came to Japan in 1984 to help NTT establish its first international R&D program and has been working with Japanese companies ever since. He was manager of one of Hitachi's R&D labs, was faculty member of Tokyo University's Electrical Engineering Dept., and leader of a Japanese Government "Sakigake" R&D project on spin-electronics. In 1997, Dr. Fasol founded Eurotechnology Japan KK and has worked with American and European companies on business development and M&A. He has also advised more than 100 investment fund managers. Dr. Fasol graduated with a PhD in Physics from Cambridge University (Trinity College).
