56 people a day in Japan die by their own hand. In your workplace, one out of every five of your co-workers may be dealing with a mental health problem. Of those 20%, many of them could be suffering from bouts of anxiety or depression. Given the stigma associated with mental illness in Japan, these people are often trapped in the isolation of their depression, which they feel must be kept from the view of others.
Ensuring mental wellbeing for all employees is critical for any business. Mentally healthy workplaces are productive and positive places to work that attract and retain top talent and get the best out of people because they feel supported and encouraged. Understanding how to best support someone with a mental health problem, along with developing and implementing an effective mental health program, however, can be a challenge.
In this workshop, our two speakers, Michael Nevans (Director of Psychological Services TMH and therapist) and Vickie Skorji (TELL Lifeline Director), will provide a brief overview of the cost of mental illness in the workplace and the most common mental illnesses, and deepen your practical knowledge through interactive “mini case studies” of scenarios that managers and HR leaders commonly face. You will also have an opportunity to ask questions on how to support someone with a mental illness and what an effective mental health program might look like in your workplace.
