In December 2016, Japan’s parliament passed a bill legalizing casinos as part of Integrated Resorts (IR) intended to stimulate the economy and inbound tourism. The global gaming industry regards Japan as a market with great potential. Media reports have mentioned Osaka as the possible site of the first IR in Japan. MGM Resorts International (MGM) is one of the largest IR operators in the world, specializing in diversified entertainment, hotel, retail, food and beverage, and gaming facilities in Las Vegas, Macau, Atlantic City, Washington, D.C., Mississippi and Detroit. Mr. Kawakami will talk about what an IR is, MGM’s experience and track record as a proven business and tourism partner, and its vision for an IR in Japan.
