Hideo Nakajima - Prior to joining White & Case in September 2017,
Mr Nakajima served for more than three years as Secretary General of the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) since January 2014. In that position,
Mr. Nakajima encouraged cooperation among competition authorities, contributed to the convergence of competition law enforcement and policy and consultation and compliance programs for corporations and trade associations. Mr. Nakajima previously served as Director General of the Bureau of Economic Affairs, where he engaged in JFTC competition advocacy activities, was responsible for competition policy in the government, compliance program for businesses, and reviewing merger proposals. Prior to that, he worked as a Director General of the Investigation Bureau, where he was in charge of the enforcement of the Antimonopoly Act.
Ashok Chawla - Former Chairperson of the Competition Commission of India (CCI), is a member of Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas' Strategic Advisory Board. Prior to his stint at the CCI, Mr. Chawla was the head of the multi-billion dollar Sardar Sarovar Narmada multi-purpose project. He has also worked in several senior positions in the Federal Government at Delhi and has been on the boards of the Reserve Bank of India and the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority. Mr. Chawla has previously acted as India's Executive Director on the International Fund for Agricultural Development, Alternate Governor for India at the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.
In addition to his association with Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, Mr. Chawla is presently the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Energy and Resources Institute and the Chairman of the National Stock Exchange.
Bharat Budholia – A Partner in the Competition Law Practice at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, Mr. Budholia advises on the full range of competition law matters, including cartel enforcement, abuse of dominance, merger control and competition audit and compliance. He has represented Indian and multinational clients in precedent-setting matters, across diverse sectors such as banking, e-commerce, sports, cement, media, energy, steel, pharmaceuticals, transport, telecom, airport infrastructure, etc. Mr. Budholia has extensive experience in handling merger control cases in India having obtained more than 65 merger control clearances.
Mr. Budholia has also advised on several high profile cartels and abuse of dominance cases before the CCI and the Appellate Tribunal. Mr. Budholia has also been actively involved in competition compliance trainings for major multi-national and Indian companies, including drafting of the competition policies, dawn-raid guidelines, etc. Mr. Budholia also frequently advises Japanese corporations on competition law issues in both merger control and behavioural matters.
