Japan’s mobile services market is a battlefield of the newest handsets and service innovation, aggressive pricing, massive sales networks, and bitingly sarcastic marketing campaigns. DOCOMO, SoftBank, and KDDI are now under siege by a slew of mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs)—each player having a dramatically different corporate culture and strategy.
The ACCJ is honored to welcome one of DOCOMO’s top executives, Mr. Toshiki Nakayama, who will share his insights from a career of strategic leadership at NTT and DOCOMO—specifically, how DOCOMO has retained its lead and continues to innovate. Uniquely experienced and positioned to speak on this, Mr. Nakayama spent considerable time in business development and strategic venture investing, including the establishment of NTT Group’s global business.
Mr. Nakayama is Senior Executive Vice President, responsible for global business and corporate affairs at DOCOMO. He has also been a member of the Board of Directors since June 2014. His long and illustrious career within the NTT Groups has included serving as both the EVP and GM of the Smart-life Business Division and Frontier Services Department since 2012. Prior to shifting to DOCOMO in 2012, he was also SVP of the Strategic Business Development Division at NTT. Mr. Nakayama entered NTT Public Corporation in April 1981, after graduating from the University of Tokyo with a bachelor’s degree in law. He also obtained an MBA from UC Berkeley in 1987.
