The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), implemented by the European Union on May 25, 2018, has recently drawn the attention of businesses worldwide with its strict data privacy regulations and stiff penalties. In addition, compliance with the GDPR has become a practical reality for all companies doing business with the EU and the number of legal issues and questions and issues has greatly increased, not only from the perspective of Japanese companies having subsidiaries in Europe but also from those having business overseas more generally.
In this seminar, Miyako Ikuta, Esq. and Ryosuke Naka, Esq. of the law firm of Kitahama Partners will give presentations on the GDPR from a
Japanese perspective as well as discuss the concepts of personal data and the notion of privacy in Japan. This presentation will be in Japanese.
