Are you thinking about setting up a company in Japan, or moving your new business to the next level?
Here's your chance to get the benefit of some hard-won experience as our very own Annie Chang and Thomas Shockley walk us through the process of creating a business in Japan. Annie (Vice Chair) and Thomas (Chair) of the Independent Business Committee each traveled a different path in building their companies. While there are basic challenges that every entrepreneur faces, their experiences show that there is more than one right way to succeed in Japan.
Thomas Shockley created his first company in early 2000, after 17 years at a top tier Japanese corporation. Very soon thereafter he applied for a product patent and a matching grant of almost 20 million yen which enabled his company to grow. He hit some bumps along the way -- 3/11 nearly did him in -- but out of the disaster he found some sparkling gems to add to his main core business.
Annie Chang is a pioneer in the information technology recruitment industry with more than 25 years’ experience in the Japanese market. Born in Taiwan, she was the first Asian woman to start a recruiting company in Japan at a time when very few foreigners were establishing businesses on their own. Annie, also the founder and President of Women in Technology Japan and President of the Japan Chapter of Female Founders, has shown through her many setbacks and successes the importance of perseverance.
In sharing the raw reality of their experiences in going independent in Japan, Annie and Thomas will show where obstacles and opportunities lie for business people setting out on their own entrepreneurial road.
Join us in the boardroom for a fascinating look at two road maps to success.
