A leading U.S. Senate staffer in the 1970’s and 1980’s; Chief U.S. Trade Negotiator with Japan and Canada and General Counsel at the U.S. Trade Representative during the Clinton administration; and author of two books on the U.S Senate (The Last Great Senate: Courage and Statesmanship in Times of Crisis, 2012; and Broken: Can the Senate Save Itself and the Country?, 2018), Ambassador Ira Shapiro will speak with ACCJ members and guests (and take questions) on where the U.S. Senate has been, where it is going, and the current challenges it faces with a focus on those challenges that impact the U.S. business community in Japan.
With a 40 year career in government service, private law practice and American politics, Ambassador Shapiro brings a unique understanding of Washington and trade politics today. We hope that you will join us for what will be an insightful discussion.
