Nominations

The Nominations Committee (NomCom) is responsible for submitting a balanced slate of qualified candidates for Officers and Governors to the membership prior to each annual ACCJ election. The Committee comprises individuals representing a diversity of professional experiences, company size, industry, age and gender.  

The Committee dissolves at the close of the Ordinary General Meeting at which the slate is presented. ​

ACCESS 2025 GUIDELINES FOR OFFICERS AND GOVERNORS

Timeline:

  • Expression of Interest Submissions: Due August 1, 2025

1. Who can join the Ordinary General Meeting?
All ACCJ members

2. How do the roles of President and Chairman differ?
The President is elected and exercises executive authority over the affairs and interests of the ACCJ. The Chairman is appointed by the president and is a non-voting member of the Board, serving in an advisory and external relations capacity.

WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 4

1. The Executive Committee consists of which positions?
The Executive Committee shall be composed of the President, the Vice Presidents, the Treasurer, the Executive Director, and the Chairman.

2. How many members did the first Board of Governors have in 1948?
Nine.

3. What is the maximum number of terms that can be served?
Three for the Governor and Vice President; two for the Treasurer and the President.

1. What are the general criteria for all positions?

To be considered for the position of At-Large Governor, an individual must: (i) be from an incorporated or unincorporated non-US-Controlled Entity which holds a Commercial Membership; and (ii) demonstrate a strong commitment to the principles, purposes, and interests of the Chamber.

3. How many At-Large Governors may be elected for 2026?

One.

1. How many Vice Presidents are there?
Seven.  Five from Tokyo and one from each region (Kansai and Chubu).

2. How many Board seats are there in total?
24

3. What is the makeup of the Board of Governors?
The Board shall be composed of the President, the Chairman, the Treasurer, Vice Presidents and the Governors.  The Vice Presidents and Governors shall include members from the Tokyo Headquarters, as well as one representative from each Regional Chapter.

2. What is the role of the President? 
The President shall exercise executive authority over the affairs and interests of the Chamber subject to the instructions of the Board.

3. How is the nominations committee appointed?
The President shall appoint a Chair and Vice Chair of the Nominations Committee, subject to the approval of the Board of Governors. This Chair and Vice Chair shall work together to select not less than five additional members to establish a Nominations Committee consisting of at least one member of the Board, at least one Committee Chair, and other members of the Chamber, such that the majority of Nominations Committee members shall come from Voting Memberships but need not be that Voting Membership’s Representative Member.

* There is a separate Nominations Committee in Kansai that creates the slate for Kansai positions. For Kansai positions, please contact the Kansai office. The Regional Treasurer is a non-Board leadership position.

2. Who can vote?

Commercial memberships in good standing, who are U.S.-controlled entities.

3. How long is one term for each position?

One year for President; two years for Vice Presidents, Governors, and Treasurer.
